A Nice Little Companion Appeared On the Way Back Home

I should really stop making up entry titles based on songs or Broadway shows (thought of this one based on "A Funny Thing Happend On the Way to the Forum"; Nathan Lane starred in the revival version in the late 90's).

So, on my usual bike ride home tonight (I have to ride my bike from the subway station...it takes nearly 25 minutes on foot), I came across a beautiful labrador. At first, I thought the dog was out for a walk with his owner (whom I couldn't see anywhere) and he was happily running around the neighbourhood. Then, he started to follow me. Seriously. He'd run in front of me and wait for me to catch up with him. I didn't think too much of it but then, he did it again and again and he actually made the effort waiting for me to come up to the same spot as him! He'd even look at me and listen to me when I told him to come to my right side because of a car coming towards us!!! It lasted about 10 minutes or so and he actually followed me to where I park my bike. Told the dog to go back to his owner (whereever he/she was...) and again he listened to me.

It was just so pleasant and comforting to have a companion like that. I have been wanting to get a dog but haven't been able to find the right one here (looking for a Jack Russell or a Boston terrier). Hopefully I'll get one soon...But the experience tonight was a really nice little birthday present for me. Wonder if I'll see the same dog again.
