A brief adventure to Shibuya

This is the poster of Oozekitaku's (オオゼキタク)gig about two weeks ago in Tokyo. I actually flew there just to see his gig. Have been listening to his music for the better part of the year and just can't get enough of it (waiting for Saint Etienne to come out with new things in the meantime).

His music is actually not so j-pop than I had expected. It actually sounds quite modern with a certain nostalgic flavour for the j-pop beat. When I first heard his music (can't remember when nor how I discovered this guy...), I thought of Saint Etienne right away. I rarely find things that I really love since I am extremely picky. That's why I think this is one of the CDs I am going to keep and not going to auction it off. Plus, the poster is just simply cute!

Another thing I must add is that Oozekitaku's vocal is rather unique, unlike all those j-pop artists (some can't sing at all, frankly). His vocal, to me, is the male equivalent of Sarah Cracknell (the vocal for Saint Etienne) though he retains a certain j-pop style while interpreting some of the numbers from his CDs. Dreamy may be a better word to describe how he sounds (like Sarah as well). I guess that's why I just bought a ticket and flew to Tokyo without thinking too much.

After the gig, I went outside of Shibuya Quattro and took a pic of the poster. There, I met this group of fans who could not get over the fact that I flew to Tokyo to see this guy's gig just for heck of it. They were screaming "erai" non-stop for about 5 minutes in very high-pitched voice...It was funny. I guess they'd never think that someone from another country'd know this guy's music and actually took a flight for three hours just to see him perform live. Fun bunch of people, though I noticed that most of Oozekitaku's fans at the gig were females. I am the only guy present in the photo. Hopefully we can get together at another live soon.
Will write about more in details on his music.
