a reason for being late & a moronic woman
Arriving at Narita, I had 5 annoying loud-talking Taiwanese female tourists, with the leader of the bunch lecturing on passport colours of each country and how it defines the "ranking"of the country. Perhaps I had a bit too much champagne on board, but the woman was obviously blind since she insisted that Chinese passports are red, meaning China ranks 2nd, like all those EU countries. Problem. Chineses travelers were lined up in front of me and behind them, with "black" coloured travel documents in hands, I seriously had no idea how she could be talking about this and sounding totally flawless. Maybe there is some colour code system for passports, but whatever she said was not logical. She insisted that American passports are blue, which makes the US come in first in terms of country strength. Interesting, Australian and Argentinian passports are also blue, does that mean Australia or Argentina more powerful than France, UK, or Germany? I seriously doubt it. The worse was, the other four women were totally convinced based on her weird logic. I rebuffed, and she got mad, obviously knowing something was wrong. I didn't care too much since it was my term to do get out of immigration.
That reminds me, apparently there is loads of misinformation in Taiwan, with my students telling me weirdest things, like Taihiti is a country. No, it's part of French Polynesia (they didn't even know this place existed), an overseas territory of the French Republic. Or Quebecois do not speak standard French, thus hard to understand. If I follow this logic, then people in Taiwan do not speak, nor do loads of other people in China, what they called "standard". I honestly don't know how one is educated in Taiwan anymore. These are college kids, for god's sake!
